SPELLebration Junior was held on Thursday, October 27, 2016 at Butner-Stem Middle School gymnasium. We had a total of 21 teams from the elementary schools in Granville County Public Schools. 3rd, 4th, and 5th grade students participated in this unique team spelling competition, and were cheered on by a full crowd of over 200 spectators! We are excited to continue bringing this student event to our schools and look forward to next year!
Congratulations to Tar River Elementary School "Lightening Librarians" for being the 2016 SPELLebration Junior Champions! After being the only team to spell "committee" correctly, they were awarded the Championship trophy and a gift bag that included a $20 gift card for each team member! Team members included Gabriela Gomez, Christa Kilduff, & Georgia Preddy
Joe Toler Oak Hill Elementary School "Toler Superheroes" were awarded the Best Costume!
SPELLebration Junior Competition Details:
SPELLebration Jr. is a spelling competition for teams of 3 students (a 3rd, 4th, & 5th grader) from each elementary school, competing as a team to write down their guess of the spelling of each word called.
Schools are responsible for determining the team members, and each elementary school can have up to two participating teams.
Words will be pulled from 3rd-5th grade curriculum.
No Registration Fee for teams
Each team will receive 2 Free Word Coupons to use for the first two words misspelled
A snack-supper will be provided to the student team members
Concessions will be available
Participants are encourages to come dressed in Halloween costumes!
Winning team will take home the SPELLebration Jr. Trophy to be displayed at their school and a reward for each individual team member
